Sick.

So even though the the sun has come out, I’m inside in my pj’s because I’ve got a cold. One of those dry throat and fuggy headed ones. Call me superstitious but I know the exact instance when I caught this cold too – it was last Thursday when during my seminar I chuckled at my friend and said “Well I’ve not been sick all year…”. Idiot. I then compounded this by saying to my friend yesterday “I don’t have time to be sick.” Asking for it.

But it’s ok, lucky for me I have a handsome man with a part time job on his way here so I am going to respectfully (snottily) request one of these;

Heat a mug of water in a small pot. While you’re waiting for the water to boil start peeling approximately 2oz of ginger root. Slice the peeled root into thin strips for more surface area. Add the sliced ginger, 1 cinnamon stick and 2 cloves to the water and bring to a boil. Let the ingredients simmer for 15-20 minutes or longer if you would like a stronger flavour. Discard the cloves and ginger when finished but save the cinnamon stick for your next cup. Stir in 1 to 3 drops cayenne extract (depending on how spicy you would like your tea to be), 1 teaspoon honey, and juice from ½ lemon. Pour the tea into a mug and enjoy!

Maybe with a shot of whisky once the sail’s past the yard arm or whatever.

My top tips for dealing with a cold include;

  • Get into your warmest, snuggliest pj’s, or a Kigu
  • Drink loads of water
  • Eat plenty of toast
  • Make a nest and do something productive in there, like knitting or sorting paper work
  • Only give as good as you can get – by this I mean only whinge to people about your cold if you’re willing to put up with their whinging once they come down with the same thing. Simple.
